How much will my home removals cost?
Where possible, removal services should always be assessed prior to being quoted. This ensures your removal team are adequately prepared on the day of your move for circumstances such as; access issues, dismantling requirements, and time constraints (such as needing to be vacated by 13:00hrs) etc. This applies to any home removal larger than a studio/1 bedroom property however smaller, local moves have the option of an “hourly rate” service. Feel free to contact us and discuss the best options available. All our home surveys are carried out for free and are no obligation.
What is the additional liability option?
Chess Moves Removals comply with BAR (British Association of Removers) and therefore, your quotation automatically includes liability cover of any individual item we move to a maximum value of £50.00 per item and to a total value of £50,000 per removal. The additional liability is offered to you if you wish to insure you goods to their full value. In some cases, our clients have an existing coverage following their own home contents insurance policy, which sometimes covers them while they’re moving house. but It is always best to check with your provider.
What packing services do you offer?
We can customise a packing service to suit you and will list it under “optional extras” within your written quote. Most common is a “full packing service” however “part/fragile packing” and even “unpacking” services are available. Please discuss your preference during your home removal survey.
How much notice do you require to move me?
Ideally you would give us as much notice as possible, however we understand that some circumstances require Short Notice Moves. Contact us when ready and we will always try our best to accommodate.
Can you dismantle and reassemble necessary furniture?
Yes we can. We will discuss your preference during your home survey and we will confirm in your written quote any items that Chess Moves are going to dismantle/reassemble. Please note we are not able to remove “hard fixings” such as wall mounted TV brackets, shelving, curtain poles etc.
I accepted your quote but our solicitor hasn’t confirmed our completion date, what do I do?
The short answer is just keep us up to date with any potential completion dates, here at Chess Moves, after you have accepted our quote, we offer you an opportunity to choose a selected date and pencil it in our calendar, we will then schedule call backs to check how your move is progressing and check if your pencilled in date is still realistic, also to avoid disappointment we shall advise you if your pencilled date is nearing capacity.
If our purchase is delayed, do you offer storage?
Yes we absolutely can offer you a storage solutions at competitive rates, we can offer long or short term Containerised Storage, we currently house over 600 crates in our own self contained storage warehouse.
Do I need to reserve a parking bay?
Being able to park outside your property will ensure the day runs smoothly. Parking and access issues will be assessed during your home removal survey. Should parking reservations be required in restricted parking zones this can be done by contacting the local council authority of the relevant area to make the necessary arrangements. The cost of reserving parking bays varies between different councils but most of them require at least 7 working days notice to reserve parking bays.
My solicitor has told me to vacate by 1pm, is this possible?
Yes this is quite common which is why a removal company should always (where possible) assess the property prior to quoting. This ensures they assemble a team (with the correct equipment etc) capable of loading all your items within the time constraints.
Should I empty my chest of drawers?
You can leave clothing/bedding in the drawers, however loose or breakable items should be stored safely in packing boxes.
What do I do about my fridge (the food, turning it off)?
For local moves we recommend that you run down the contents of the fridge prior to your move. On the day of the move your removal team will pack any remaining items in a box to transport them to your new property.
For long distance/storage the fridge and/or freezer will need to be fully emptied and defrosted (to prevent water damage) to other belongings.
Do I need to do anything to prepare for my full packing service?
The beauty of a full packing service is that you are leaving it all down to us. Some customers may choose to pack a few items of personal belongings prior to our arrival, in which case we can provide you with some packing materials beforehand.
What time will you arrive on the day?
The start time for an “hourly rate” removal services will normally be picked by you, however for set priced, local removals the start time is 08:00 – 08:30hrs. This can be adjusted to suit the move.
What is the waiting time exemption certificate?
The waiting time exemption certificate (WTEC) is offered if you want to avoid any waiting time charges on the day of your move. Charges are incurred on your move when there is a delay in the chain and we are kept waiting to unload at your new property. This can happen because someone in the chain is late moving out of their property or there is a delay with the money transferring between the chain. If there is a delay from 2pm the charge is £30.00 plus V.A.T per person per hour on your removal team, this is charged in half an hour increments up until 5:30pm. However, if you have selected the WTEC option at least one week beforehand, then these charges are wavered.
How long will the move take?
Providing there is no delay receiving the keys for your new property, then we try to complete all home moves within the working day (7:30 – 17:30hrs).
When do you require payment?
Our terms and conditions (which will be sent with your quotation) state that we require a 20% deposit payment prior to your packing/removal date, the remaining balance will be due on the day of the move itself usually just before we start unloading into your new property. We accept all major credit/debit cards including American Express or alternatively you can pay via bank transfer preferably before the move day to allow the funds time to clear.
